Microfiber Cloths: A quicker way to wash your boat

One of our favorite boat detailing products to use after any day spent cruising the Kennebunk River is a microfiber cloth. While you will still likely want to break out the soap and a brush for more serious projects, incorporating a microfiber cloth into your boat detailing routine will save you time, eliminate the need for chemical cleaners, and leave your boat free of streaks or water marks.

How do microfiber cloths work?

Normal cleaning cloths or rags are typically made from nylon, and can be effective when used with soap and water. Microfiber cloths are made up of a polyester/polyamide blend comprised of thousands of tiny fibers. These fibers attach themselves to the tiniest dirt particles, removing them without any chemicals. While the microfibers can clean surfaces without water, we recommend rinsing your boat down beforehand for the best results. Luckily the microfibers are extremeley absorbant, and will leave you with a streak-free shine.

Where can I purchase microfiber cloths?

Although there are several different microfiber blends available on the market, we recommend the higher-quality 50% polyester/50% polyamide blend. These may be harder to find, but our friends at Ultra Microfiber have everything you need to get started!
